Hawthorne Valley Farm is seeking creative, energetic, mindful individuals to join our team of counselors for our Farm & Arts Summer Camp!

We offer both day and overnight camps for children ages 8-16. Summer camp counselors will guide campers through hands-on, nature-based activities while living on our 900-acre organic, diversified Biodynamic® farm. A typical day with campers might be spent feeding farm animals, gardening, woodworking, hiking, making music, swimming in our pond, and more! If you love working with children, have an interest in agriculture, or enjoy spending time outdoors-this could be the perfect job for you!

Our residential summer camp provides campers ages 8 to 16the opportunity to live and work on a real working farm. We wake to the rooster’s crow and end our day with stories and songs around a bonfire. Our younger campers (8-12) live in our 200-year-old farmstead and our older campers (12-16) live in rustic cabins located on a campsite in a wooded glen on the farm. All campers experience an old-fashioned, technology-free summer in the country with long days spent swimming in our pond, hiking our hills, singing, creating handcrafts, gardening, and playing outdoors in the fresh air!

Camp counselors are responsible for the primary care and co-managing of a dorm room or cabin group of up to 6 campers. Counselors lead or assist with various activities and farm chores. Applicants must love working with children and be willing to enthusiastically guide our young campers through a joyful camp experience. House Camp counselors live in the Main House along with campers or right adjacent to the Main House. Field Camp counselors live in canvas tents or yurts in a nearby pasture.

Farm & Arts Summer Camp activities vary but may include: swimming, sculpture, woodworking, soccer, natural dying, yoga, music, handcrafts, hiking, offsite adventures around the Hudson Valley and more!

Our Dining Hall menu includes delicious mostly vegetarian meals and snacks prepared from scratch using Biodynamic and organic ingredients. Most produce comes directly from our farm, the rest is sourced from other organic Hudson Valley growers. Campers and staff eat together family-style, fostering the community-building spirit of the camp.

Time off: Camp staff will work six days per week during camp sessions with one scheduled day off. Counselors will have scheduled breaks and time off during the week as well. House Camp is in session for six weeks of programming with one paid week of training prior to camp. Field Camp is in session for six weeks of programming with two paid weeks of training prior to camp.

Hawthorne Valley Farm is located just 2 hours north of Manhattan and is lodged between the Catskill and the Adirondack Mountains, so there is plenty to explore nearby on your off time!

Salary Range:$2,500 – $3,000for the seven or eight weeklong season, pay is commensurate with experience and desired skills. Waterfront certification will be provided for those who are currently certified Lifeguards; re-certifications will be provided for those with current First Aid/CPR/AED training. Housing and farm-to-table meals included.
