Do you love working with kids and playing games in the beautiful Colorado Rockies? Apply today for the Summer Camp Counselor position! You will support the education, supervision, and care of children who are attending the outdoor summer camp program at the Steamboat Child Care Center.


Detailed job description, including responsibilities, work performed, tools or equipment used, etc.:

  • Positively guide children individually and in large groups in a developmentally appropriate manner through daily camp activities including sports, arts, teaching outdoor education and teambuilding

  • Communicate with multilingual parents and staff to explain our policies and procedures or address a behavior concern about their child

  • Maintain legal compliance with the State of Colorado Rules Regulating Child Care Centers

  • Support the lead PreK teacher with operational and supervisory support of PreK campers

  • Resolve conflicts with families, children, and staff in a positive manner

  • Plan and implement activities with children in daily outdoor activities offsite

  • Care of children that range in age from 3 years to 5 years

  • Routine sanitizing and disinfecting of toys and surfaces

  • Drive the shuttle van

  • Fulfill lifeguard and first aid duties

  • Responsible for all safety and discipline of children throughout the various activities

  • Must be a high energy, fun loving, active individual

  • Must demonstrate an interest in and knowledge of children & concern for their proper care and well being

  • Other duties, as assigned


Minimum skills, experience, and education
required for this job:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • A current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level I or higher in PDIS is required

  • 500 hours of formal documented experience working with children ages 3 – 12 required, with previous camp experience preferred. Must provide letters of proof if hired

  • Must be willing to take 10 Level 2 courses in PDIS in addition to mandatory teacher trainings

  • Prior experience with 4 or more children less than six (6) years of age who are not related to the individual required

  • Experience in outdoor education programs preferred

  • Knowledge of child development and willingness to stay up to date with current best practices

  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor under stressful situations

  • Ability to lift, carry, and position children up to 40 pounds

  • Willingness to engage children in outdoor activities for long periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather

  • Valid CPR/First-aid certification required

  • Valid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred

  • Willing to drive SSRC shuttle; must pass DMV check

  • 2 letters of recommendation required

  • Adhere to all safety policies and program procedures

  • Interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management consistent with Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp Service Excellence standards

  • Must be available for the entire season


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a busy and sometimes stressful atmosphere while maintaining composure and good communication skills

  • Must be flexible and willing to work with children of all ages 3-5 and abilities in inclusive classrooms

  • Must be able to lift, carry, and position children up to 40 pounds

  • Responsible for leading activities in all weather, including inclement weather

  • Must be able to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, talking, and sitting on the floor

  • Must communicate clearly (written and oral) in English. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply


Miscellaneous information:

  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check

  • This is an hourly non-exempt position and is subject to overtime pay

  • Position requires working weekends and holidays as needed

  • All Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation employees are required to follow adapting COVID policies and guidelines

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Steamboat area base hourly pay range: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour
