The Christine Avery Learning Center
We are looking for a Camp Counselor to supervise young campers and make sure they learn and have fun. The summer camp program is designed to provide additional enrichment in a variety of areas for children in kindergarten through 8th grade. Although the activities varies, summer camp typically offers, creative and dramatic activities, sports participation, STEM/STEAM related activities and art, recreation, and outdoor learning experiences. We emphasize positive interactions with peers and adults. The hours of operation are typically six – eight hours – this provides great experience on your resume for those deciding to become educators.
Duties
Responsible for supervision of a group of children as assigned by the Program Director; supervision must follow state licensing regulations. Appropriately apply “Kid Limits.” Responsible for dealing with inappropriate behaviors using conflict resolution, mediation, and appropriate consequences. Responsible for assisting with virtual learning as well as planning lessons/activities for a group of students. Submits weekly lesson/activity plans that meet requirements of state licensing regulations. Keep weekly and monthly attendance records for group. Establish and maintains good relationship with parents/guardians of children in program. Keep parents informed of child’s progress. Shares workload by helping others as needed. Assures that programs and activities have objectives and measures of effectiveness, are professionally planned, managed, documented, and provide a benefit to the community served. Provides quality customer service to all customers, applying quality standards. Accepts responsibility for the continuous improvement of a safe work environment by correcting safety problems and reporting unsafe conditions that need correction. Fulfills the mission and values of the Christine W. Avery Learning Center program development and implementation, by modeling the behaviors of community service. Hours of work are typically full-time.
Requirements
High school graduate or GED, or attending high school. Must be 18 years of age. CPR and First Aid required and obtain required childcare credentials within 3 months. Associates Degree or higher preferred. Must pass background check required by NC Division of Child Care.
