Spend a summer of fun with Bath Rec! We are a summer day camp for students in grades 1-6 which are split up into two sites (1-3 and 4-6). We enjoy various field trips including Funtown/Splashtown, Aquaboggan, Popham Beach, Urban Air, and more! Please read below for important dates and information regarding this position:

Training week: June 19 – June 23 (We recognize these dates may interfere with high school student’s schedules; training hours will be amended if necessary)

Camp dates: June 26 – August 11

GENERAL PURPOSE:

CITY OF BATH, MAINE POSITION DESCRIPTION

Temporary Summer Camp Counselor

Bath Parks & Recreation is seeking camp counselors for the upcoming 2023 Summer Camp Season.

This is a temporary position which assists in implementation of the summer camp program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director, Summer Camp Director and Summer Camp Supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as positive adult role model for campers in the program through appropriate dress, speech, attitude, and courtesy

Lead a group of campers in an instructional Summer Camp setting, maintaining standards for behavior and safety

Ability to work with diverse personalities and ages

Ability to lead and supervise small and large groups by recognizing potential issues and problem-solving methods as needed

Plans and implements a variety of daily recreational and enrichment activities that align with camp themes for small groups; continually interfacing with campers, volunteers, staff, and parents

Assists and participates in daily camp activities and weekly off-site field trips including swimming, educational and recreational trips, and other summer children’s activities scheduled throughout camp

Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents. Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

1. Completion of at least sophomore year of high school.
2. At least one year’s experience working with youth.
3. Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

(A) Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, and operations used in a recreation program;

(B) Goodinterpersonalskills.

(C) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Basic First Aid and CPR Certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
