General Summary

Responsible for planning and implementing programs and experiences for children ages 6-12 in a group setting by leading the children through a variety of activities, which includes outdoor games, weekly field trips, arts & crafts, and other high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences. Engages children in interactive activities including organized arts and crafts, singing, sports activities, games, and field trips, while maintaining a safe environment

Prepares play areas, equipment, and materials for use by program participants, explains rules and regulations, demonstrates activities, provides assistance, monitors participant play. Break down activities at the end of each day.

Responsible for the organization and maintenance of the camp facility, supplies, and equipment.

Counselors are required to take daily attendance, complete accident and incident reports when necessary, and inform their supervisor of any issues or concerns that may require immediate attention.

Follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for campers” safety and whereabouts at all times.

Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to children, parents, and other staff

Monitors and maintains safety and cleanliness of facility ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.

Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be dependable, enjoy working with children, be creative and have good communication and problem-solving skills. All applicants must have standard First Aid, AED and Infant & Child and Adult CPR. Prior experience working with children is preferred. Specialized skills in the following areas are helpful: special events, arts and crafts, sports, games and working with school aged youth. Applicants must be age 16 or over.

Must be able to work all eight weeks of the summer camp season. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Camp Counselor –

Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the summer day camp program

Skilled in working with young people and the ability to serve as a role model is necessary.

Skilled in scheduling, time management and resourcefulness.

Ability to be outdoors and lead and participate in physical activities.

Ability to manage and chaperone group activities.

Able to communicate clearly and effectively and enforce recreation rules, procedures, and regulations.

Skilled in redirecting unacceptable behavior and to assess potentially dangerous situations and request assistance as necessary.

Ability to respond to questions and complaints in a courteous and tactful manner.

Ability to monitor several activities simultaneously.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or as a member of a team.

Physical Requirements

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk or run; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee is exposed to outside weather conditions and the noise level may be loud. Varied levels of occupational and/or emotional stress associated with the duties and responsibilities of being an employee in the department. Additional Information

Persons selected for positions with the Recreation Department must successfully complete a criminal record check prior to beginning employment and must not have been convicted of any felony and/or have a criminal conviction for the following offenses: causing or threatening direct physical injury to any individual or causing or threatening harm of any nature to any child or children. (RSA 170-E: 56, II(a))

Must also be able to pass a drug screen test and submit to a motor vehicle records check
