Mystic Seaport Museum
Mystic Seaport Museum is seeking seasonal Museum Interpreters. “What is that?” you ask. Only the coolest job ever! You might spend part of your day shaping a barrel stave with a drawknife in the cooperage, printing documents on a 19th-century press, or carving a decorative piece in the ship-carving shop. On other days, you might be facilitating arts and crafts activities, teaching children about popular 19th-century games, or showing a family how something called a “chip log” works. You might find yourself demonstrating open-hearth cooking, banging out a project in the blacksmith shop, taking visitors on a tour through the museum’s grounds, or sharing the stories about some of our Museum’s famous vessels. Do you like to perform, play music, or sing? If so, you could be belting out a chantey as we heave a capstan round!
If these things sound awesome (and they are), and you like people (like we do), and you enjoy working outdoors in all kinds of weather, are comfortable speaking or performing in front of audiences of all sizes, and enjoy learning every day, this is the place for you.
So, if you think you have what it takes to provide our visitors a great experience, we want to hear from you. You will be immersed in a unique, exciting, educational, and fun environment that will challenge, delight, and surprise you every day.
