Hello future Innkeeper! Haan’s 1830 Inn is hiring a salaried position for Innkeeper for our fall season. This position is great for retirees looking for a small adventure, for young professionals looking to experience something new, or for anyone who wants to work on Mackinac Island or learn about running a Bed and Breakfast. Working with another innkeeper, housekeepers, and other ancillary staff, we are looking for the right couple or person to join our little work family. Because staff lives on site with other staffers, excellent interpersonal skills and communication are a must.

Innkeeping requires a few jobs from the whole staff daily, including: Perparing and serving breakfast, clean-up and dishes, some light housekeeping in common spaces and guest rooms, taking phone calls and making reservations, answering emails, checking in and out guests, answering guest questions and assisting with their travels, some light maintenance (unclogging toilets, “band-aiding” emergencies until a professional can get to the inn, etc), baking and food prep, laundry, some yard or garden work, and many other small, sometimes unpredictable tasks. Daily tasks are split amongst the staff.

Every day is different at Haan’s 1830 Inn. While the daily tasks require basic skills, what an innkeeper needs most are the abilities to problem solve, and make guests at the Inn feel welcome, comfortable, and assisted. Different interesting and challenging scenarios involving staff, guests, or the property arise every day and our innkeepers need the ability to think quickly and make sure the operation as a whole is running smoothly.

This job does require you to be a “people person” – someone who is comfortable and confident around people, with the skills and nature to be warm, hospitable, and welcoming while still being able to enforce professional boundaries at the Inn.

Previous customer service experience is important, but innkeeping experience is not required. Training will be done on site and is paid.

Housing is included and no rent is required. Meals eaten in house are covered by the Bed and Breakfast.

This job does require energy and the occasional ability to lift heavy objects.

Start date: August 15, 2022. End date: October 28, 2022.
