Title: Boat Captain

Purpose: Provide safe and informative boat tours to visitors of Glacier National Park. Assist customers in purchasing tickets and renting small boats for personal use, record transactions through cash registers, and other ticket office functions. Guide interpretive walks. Maintain tour boats, rental boats, ticket offices, docks, and surrounding areas.

Experience: Boating experience, public speaking, customer service, cash register, and cash handling

Skills: Communication and customer service skills; public speaking; organization; operating cash register, credit card machine, and computer; accurate cash handling; detailed form completion; multitasking

Physical: Must be able to lift 50 to 75 pounds frequently to push, pull, lift and drag boats such as kayaks, canoes, rowboats, or motorboats, and lift batteries. Frequently reaching, bending, kneeling, squatting, pushing, and pulling while helping visitors in and out of rental boats. Daily hand/wristwork while completing forms, using cash register, credit card machine, and computer.

Essential Duties: Safely operate tour boats with passenger capacity up to 70; Navigate, steer, control speed, dock, and handle lines in various types of weather/wind. Assist passengers in and out of tour boats and rental boats and provide and enforce safety regulations. Professionally deliver factual tour commentary during boat tours and on guided hikes. Monitor and use 2-way radios. Clean, mop, sweep, wash, fuel, and perform general maintenance on tour boats and rental boats. Provide customer service to Park visitors purchasing tour tickets or renting boats and answer questions. Correctly enter rental/tour transactions on a cash register, use a credit card machine, and count money. Accurately complete daily paperwork.

Pre Employment Requirements: 18 years old; US Citizen; No Felonies; Current CPR and First Aid Certification; Negative Drug Test (Employer reimburses cost); Current Physical meeting USCG requirements (Employer reimburses cost); Provide 3 character reference letters

Dock Hands work at our Apgar location on Lake McDonald renting motorboats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats, and paddleboards all while looking out on the largest lake in the park with the Continental Divide on the horizon!
